Innuitian Mountains
The Innuitian Mountains is a landform region that is present in northern Canada, more specifically in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. This landform region was developed during the Mesozoic Era and was formed around 158 years ago caused when the North American Plate moved northwards. The Innuitian Mountains consist of igneous and metamorphic rocks, but they mostly contain sedimentary rock. The Arctic Ocean surrounds the Innuitian Region and there are waterways that are located nearby, such as Perry Channel and Baffin Bay. The Innuitian Mountains lie north of the tree line, forbidding any trees to grow, and as the land is barren with vast areas of permafrost. Plant life is limited as well however, plants, such as rare barriers, moss, lichens, tough grass, small shrubs, and Arctic willows are able to survive. The vegetation in this landform region tends to grow close to the ground in order to receive the maximum amount of heat. The climate in the Innuitian mountains is extremely harsh and very cold, which is why no trees can grow and why the soil is really hard. Two major cities within the Innuitian Mountains are Pond Inlet, located far the north, and Broughton Island, which is the biggest island located in the region. A huge economic activity in this region is tourism, and it is very dependant on the natural landforms seen in the Innuitian Mountains. The large mountains, and icebergs attract many tourists, and the waterways make it easy to view all of the natural landforms as they provide easy transportation. Tourism is important to this landform region because it attract a vast amount of tourists, which results in a large amount of profit. One environmental issue that is prevalent is the Innuitian Mountains is not related to humans destroying the environment, it’s the fact that the environment causes problems for humans. As a result of such a cold climate, the population of this region is low. This climate also affects the number of houses and buildings, since they can not be built on permafrost.
